Our region boasts a rich and abundant agricultural community. From sugaring and dairy to beef, horticulture, and forestry, Vermonters produce items of unsurpassed quality — and take rightful pride in that work. I believe that we should encourage this aspect of our economy at every opportunity! I support removing excessive regulation, continuing current use programs, eliminating the inheritance tax on farms (to allow them to stay in the hands of farm families), and allowing Vermont to determine how it grades its own maple syrup. (After all, we are the maple syrup experts.) Anywhere you go, in America or around the world, “Vermont” is synonymous with quality. I believe that the men and women in our community who have helped this “brand” grow deserve to reap the fruits of their labor. Our state government must help them where it can, and get out of the way if it can’t.
