Unfortunately, Vermont suffers under one of the highest per capita tax burdens in the nation. Time and again, Montpelier has shown no urgency to fix this problem. I believe Vermonters are simply tapped out, and that what you need is immediate relief — in your paychecks, in your bank accounts, and in your wallets. The high taxes that we endure erode our earnings, make home ownership less attractive, decrease our opportunities, and severely limit our discretionary income. History has proven — in Vermont and throughout America — that lowering taxes actually produces higher revenues. We need aggressive tax reform to allow Vermonters of every age to stay here, to keep this state their home. I look forward to working with those of every political persuasion to find concrete ways to help you, our citizens, keep more of your money, to spend how you see fit.
